Who We Are
Hardscrabble was originally a nine hole course known as Fort Smith Country Club. In 1926, the membership had outgrown that course and the early board members looked around for more land to build a championship 18 hole course.
The land they found was an old farm where the owners said it was "hard to scrabble" a living because the land was all shallow topsoil over bedrock, that same bedrock accounts for the great roll one gets during most of the year. The undulating foothills of the Ozarks make a interesting course that combines flat fairways and dramatic hilly stretches that are truly challenging.
